2017 looks as if it will be an exciting breakthrough year for assisted dying legislation in Australia, with Tasmania in an historic position to be the first State with such legislation. The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2016 has already been moved in the Parliament and will be debated sometime after Parliament sits again after 7 March. You can see more details here.
The Victorian Government has committed to introducing a Bill later this year. A panel of experts has been appointed to consider the Assisted Dying Framework recommended in the report of the Victorian inquiry into end of life choices and to make recommendations on the details of the Bill.
A lot of work is being done at present to prepare information and support material for the website and for MPs, and campaign details are being finalised.
Please make your views supporting a compassionate voluntary assisted dying choice known to your State MPs, in both the House of Assembly and Legislative Council. Please stay in touch through the website or our Facebook page and let us know how you get on in your contacts with MPs.
