Compassion and respect

So the current system is “perfectly acceptable” is it Mr Abbott?

What is it about our members of Parliament that they find terrible end of life suffering acceptable and even, in Tony Abbott’s words reported this morning, “perfectly acceptable”?

Anyone with any doubts about how unacceptable our current system is, how callous, inhumane and utterly without respect for individuals’ wishes and dignity, should read today’s story in the Sydney Morning Herald – http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/ainas-tale-why-i-ended-my-life-20130927-2ujw5.html – and then tell us that’s OK in a civilised society.

How many more  terrible experiences like Aina Ranke’s and Robert Cordover’s  is it going to take before our elected representatives – particularly those who trumpet their Christianity – act with compassion and with respect for the wishes of 80% of the population for the choice of voluntary assisted dying in situations like that?
