“Death and Dying: How do you have a good death?” – people are being asked to share their personal experience on this topic as well as their opinions for the ABC News National program called “The Drum”. It has an initiative called “Open Drum”, where people are invited to contribute their story about a particular topic that is in the news. This fortnight, it’s death and dying but views have to be expressed by midday on Monday 31 August.
How do you have a good death? Is a good death found at home surrounded by loved ones? Does ‘euthanasia’ bring a peaceful passing? Or should we fight to hold onto life? And once someone has died, how do we grieve well? Is it helpful for people to plan their funerals? Should there be more alternatives to franchised funeral parlours? The ABC asks that you share your experiences of death and how it has informed how you want to die in 300 – 700 words. Click here to get more details and to contribute your story.
We believe having the comfort of a legal option of doctor-provided voluntary assisted dying option is absolutely essential. Only a small number of people will need or want assisted dying, as has been so clearly shown overseas, but none of us know if that’s going to be us! if you agree, make your views known.
